everything tay has said abt ttpd and the songs on it so far 🤍🤎

(creds go to genius!!!)

what tay has said abt fortnight and the mv

"Fortnight is a song that I think really exhibits a lot of the common themes that run throughout this album. One of which being – fatalism. Longing, pining away, lost dreams. You know, I think that it’s a very fatalistic album in that there are lots of very dramatic lines about life or death and “I love you, it’s ruining my life” like these are very hyperbolic, dramatic things to say. But, it’s that kind of album. It’s about a – you know – dramatic, artistic, tragic kind of take on love and loss. And “Fortnight,” I’ve always imagined that it took place in this like, American town where, the American Dream you thought would happen [to you] didn’t. Like – you ended up not with the person that you loved, and now you have to just live with that every day. Wondering what would’ve been, maybe seeing them out… and that’s a pretty tragic concept, really. So I was just writing from that perspective."

"I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever. I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight."

"When I was writing the Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music. Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another. For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it. @postmalone blew me away on set as our tortured tragic hero and I’m so grateful to him for everything he put into this collaboration. I’m still laughing from getting to work with the coolest guys on earth, @ethanhawke and @mrjoshcharles (tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets). I still can’t believe I get to work with the unfathomably brilliant @rpstam on cinematography and my team of dream collaborators: @ethantobman – production design @chancler – editor, @dimino.anthony – 1st AD @jilyjill – producer @dom – executive producer @prlmt aced the VFX as always. @josephcassell1, @lorrieturk and @jemmamuradian made these tortured looks come to life. The entire crew made this a dream to shoot. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone who has watched it!!"

my only breaks his favorite toys

"My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys is a song I wrote alone, and it’s a metaphor of…being somebody’s favorite toy, until they break you, and then don’t want to play with you anymore, which is…how a lot of us are in relationships, where we are so valued by a person in the beginning, and then all of a sudden, they break us, or they devalue us in their mind, and we’re still clinging onto, ‘No, no, no, you should’ve seen them the first time they saw me. They’ll come back to that. They’ll get back to that.‘ So it’s kind of like, a song about denial, really. So that you can live in this world where there’s still hope for a toxic, broken relationship."

down bad
"The metaphor in ‘Down Bad’ is that I was comparing sort of the idea of being love bombed. Where someone…rocks your world and dazzles you and then just kind of abandons you….This girl is abducted by aliens but she wanted to stay with them…And then when they drop her back off in her hometown, she’s like, ‘Wait, no, where are you going? I liked it there! It was weird but it was cool. Come back!’ And so…the girl in the character in the song felt like, ‘I’ve just been exposed to a whole different galaxy and universe and didn’t know it was possible, how could you just put me back where I was before?’"

florida!!! ft florence + the machine

Speaking to iHeartRadio, Swift explains that Florida is a stereotypical location to which criminals flee to start afresh. She parallels this with the feeling she has whenever she goes through a breakup, stating that she feels like she wants to start afresh, be unknown and escape. Florida therefore felt extra symbolic as a place around which to centre this song.

florence on performing florida!!! on the eras tour: "if i was gonna do it, it would be a surprise" (i think she means surprise song)

florence on florida!!!: "there's a sort of bigness of [taylor swift the phenomenon], and then there's the taylor i spend time with in the studio, who is just the sweetest and most down to earth. we had such a fun time."
