i have to admit, fortnight has def grown on me as a song and now i really like it! i luv the aesthetic and vibe of the fortnight mv and that is why i have brought to u a much needed fortnight mv breakdown and trying to investigate any symbols / easter eggs! i still cant believe our mother released 31 SONGS LIKE what the heck??? shes so amazing and i love herrrr sm. join me on this easter egg hunt and dont forget to comment (but pls keep it kind in the comments section i dont want any drama starting) and keep reading my blog <3 i will usually have a new post(s) every day. i'll be going in chronological order of the mv so yea! bear w me

we find ourselves in this sort of odd room that isn't very typical. in the beginning of the song she mentions being an alcoholic (aka midnights wine aunt 🍷🍷) and this could be u know a sort of weird place that is how she views things bc maybe she isnt mentally stable at the moment and this is kinda what her brain feels like: out of order. she's wearing a white wedding dress which looks quite similar to the dress she wore to the grammys (see pic below)

the dresses have many similarities as u can see! for example, they are both white and have a similar shape. and since its a wedding gown, yk it relates to getting married obviously which is mentioned several times on ttpd and is def a relevant subject. also, taking a closer look at music vid tay, we can see she has sort of a garter thing on her leg which i think is similar / a reference to her garter she wears for the midnights set if u see:

she also has a clock necklace which is just kinda a thing now for ttpd and this is another reference to the grammys where taylor wore the clock on her neck.

then we have this person dressed in all white so that we can't see their face coming in thru an UPSIDE DOWN DOOR (*we saw an upside down door in the little video with the ttpd room office thing*) carrying a tray with a pill box that says "forget him" there is also a glass of water

if u look closely, the numbers on the pill bottle say 121389 which is tay's bday (december 13, 1989). it also says 41924 which is the date that the mv came out. then, after she takes the pill so she can forget him she hops off the bed and looks in the mirror. she takes a towel and wipes her face, revealing all her tattoos on her face.

i think these tattoos are exactly matched to post malone's but idk if they are EXACTLY the same. it would make sense tho if it was.

then she walks into the office workplace to get started for her work day (or night! who even knows if its night or day but if its night i feel working at night and writing poetry is def a vibe). we see post malone sitting at his desk, working and typing. in this scene she is wearing this black dress. swifties have discovered that this is actually a "victorian mourning dress." after doing some research, i've discovered a few things abt this victorian mourning dress. apparently u wear this bc of GRIEF (ummm 5 stages of grief?? anyone??) or someone very close to u died. "weeping willows" often wore this specific dress. this dress is also from around the 1830s which is mentioned also quite a few times in ttpd (like in i hate it here: i'd say the 1830s but without all the racists and getting married off for the highest bid) this whole 1830s vibe is very interesting and we'll see how she continues to do this aesthetic for ttpd.

the dress is similar to the dresses that her dancers wear for my tears ricochet. now that i think abt it, maybe the my tears ricochet dancers' outfits were inspired by the victorian mourning dress. this makes sense bc the song is abt someone dying so like it would be a perf fit bc yk ur like mourning bc someone died! this is very cool

anyways, back to the music video!!

taylor sits down at her desk and stacks a few papers neatly. she then starts typing "i love you it's ruining my life" over and over repeatedly. she types one in all caps and then lowercase and just over and over again. something very interesting happens here tho................she makes a typo. she's typing "I love you it's ruining my life" but instead of typing "ruining" she types "rui ning" with a space in between the i and the n. w-w-what's going on, tay? did she do this on purpose? or was it a simple mistake bc typewriters are a little wonky and dont work correctly at times.

then they are both typing i love u its ruining my life and now theres like colors coming out of the typewriters; orange-ish peach and then like a dark blue-y kinda color. i'm not really sure yet what this means although some person said that this could be like for the midnights cover art bc it's blue and her skin is kinda like peach but i don't actually think this is true bc on the midnights cover her skin is more dark than this color so i don't really believe that it's just all i know abt what the colors might mean.

then theres a shot of her typing on the typewriter with all the letters from a regular typewriter keyboard. however, NOT ALL THE NUMBERS.....as u can see the 1 button is missing. all the other numbers are there (2, 3, 4, 5, etc). apparently this is a reference to the 1. recall that tay changed the eras tour setlist for the folklore part and instead of putting invisible string she replaced it w the 1 bc at first she thought they that she and joe were end game so she put that song (a love song abt an invisible string tying her to joe) but then they broke up and she quickly changed it to the 1, a song abt losing the person who u once thought was going to be the one (aka w u forever, ur soulmate, yk). the "1" keyboard button is missing bc joe was never the one and he def isn't now.

now they are laying together and papers are spread out almost as if it's like snow. the papers make a shape of taylor's face which is almost like a parallel to in the style music video where she has that shadow of her head and the beach inside it

when the camera zooms in on post + tay, u can see that taylor is reading a book that says in big letters: "US". this is the story of us that she is reading! this is kinda silly but i thought at first it was like US for united states or US as in like a college place like usc like college booklet type thing but i was totally wrong and that was so silly of me.,

then the next scene is tay hugging post and they have a looooooottttt of chemistry in this scene together as many ppl were commenting on <33 i def don't think this is like an "easter egg" or anything at all but it's funny to see that this scene is a parallel to when the hugged at the AMAs in 2019

as i said before, lots of chemistry here and it looks so real that they are in love and together. pat urselves on the back, tay and post, for some stellar acting right there!! this is prob my fave scene in the music video bc its so cute and lovey dovey.

then we go to this scene where she is i think having shock therapy which is supposed to like cure ur depression or something. this fits well with the whole 5 stages of grief and depression stuff. the next easter egg might be the most obvious and easy to catch easter egg that taylor has ever given us. there is a black dog walking in it which is an obvious reference to "the black dog" song on TTPD!

then there's like a machine thingy (they look like those lie detector things) that has those lines that go up and down but instead of it having the lines it's "i love you it's ruining my life" in cursive. this is the main lyric that is repeated throughout the song and clearly, the music video.

there were also TWO suUuUuUuUuUper famous actors (according to my friend who recognized them; i didn't 😭😭 pls dont come after me for not recognizing them AA) in the music video: ethan hawke and josh charles who were both from the dead poets society, a movie. ppl online were making jokes that when tay first announced the album they kept mixing it up w dead poets society and saying that instead of the tortured poets department. some ppl even said " the tortured poets society." for more info on hawke and charles, i rec that u look them up. in the picture below ethan hawke is on the left and josh charles is on the right.

then, the scientists do some shock thing and taylor starts screaming in pain. post malone looks up from reading a paper and tries to save her so he unplugs the thing and taylor is saved!

then the next scene is post in a telephone booth and taylor is sitting on top of the booth getting drenched in the rain. i hope im not the only one who thought this scene was kinda weird. theyre also on top of a huge and thin cliff. i thought theres kinda a parallel to when she did that one show on the fearless tour where she's drenched in that tiny black dress in the rain.

but then theres a flashback to the other scene where shes wearing the victorian black mourning dress and shes dramatically opening the drawers and grabbing out all the papers and files. then she burns all of the files and papers and just stands there. we see her look very painful as well.

then theres another flashback to her wearing the wedding dress and smashing some chair into a mirror and the mirror breaks and shatters. this is another parallel to taylor's early years when she threw a chair off and into the stage when she was performing. i think it was maybe in her fearless era.

then we're finally reaching the very end of the music video. post hangs up the phone and opens the door of the booth and looks up to see taylor. he reaches for her hand and the music video ends after they touch hands. it then fades to black and says "the end" with a few credits <3
